CPS wins Department of Veterans Affairs Virtual Lifetime Electronic Record Contract
October 2010
CPS, along with our prime contractor partner CACI Technologies,
has been awarded the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Virtual
Lifetime Electronic Record (VLER) Development Support Blanket
Purchase Agreement (BPA) Contract. In early 2009, the President
asked the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of
Defense (DoD) to deliver a virtual lifetime electronic record
(VLER) that seamlessly integrates DoD data to VA data in order to
ensure that no Veteran has a delay in service as a result of the
transition from active duty to Veteran status. The Virtual Lifetime
Electronic Record (VLER) Initiative Programs purpose is to support
the VA mission and efforts to promote quality healthcare for our
veterans and their eligible dependents. In particular, the VLER
Initiative supports Veterans Health Administrations (VHA) long
range strategy to work with other public and private sector
agencies on a collaborative effort to improve the health of our
citizens, including over 25 million veterans. The VLER Initiative
strategy is primarily focused on: Electronic Health Records (EHR);
Personal Health Records (PHR) and Health Information Exchange (HIE)
activities applying appropriate health IT standards. The VLER
Initiatives program involves health IT sharing activities in the
following areas: VA/ DoD, Federal Government, and private sector
(state, local and non-Government organizations.) In support of this
most important initiative, CPS will leverage our history supporting
patient data exchange between the DoD and the VA on programs such
as the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) Imaging
Information Exchange, the Bi-Directional Health Information
Exchange (BHIE) and National Health Information Network (NHIN)
programs.
