Data Exchange and Integration

Our enterprise architects and senior systems engineers have unique expertise and backgrounds delivering and integrating electronic medical records systems, clinical information systems, and digital imaging systems. Our technical staff designed and implemented the first successful large scale health data sharing solutions for the Department’s of Defense and Veterans Affairs. This groundbreaking system, the Bi-directional Health Information Exchange (BHIE) and its predecessor the Federal Health Information Exchange (FHIE) has been in production for over five years, sharing hundreds of millions of patient records between the two largest healthcare providers in the world. This effort, funded by the federal government and designed and implemented by our chief architect is widely regarded as an example of how two large Regional Health Information Organizations (RHIO) might exchange clinical data. We understand the technical and functional issues facing the nationwide efforts to implement electronic health records. Our in-depth knowledge of standards such as HL7 and LOINC and our expertise with integration technologies and service oriented architectures provides for effective low cost solutions to share information within and across healthcare providers, systems and enterprises.

We are keenly aware of the need to protect sensitive personal health information, and have extensive experience designing solutions that meet or exceed regulatory requirements such as HIPAA and the Privacy Act. We have successfully achieved certification and accreditation of our solutions against the demanding computer security requirements of the Department of Defense and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs.
